The Nauvoo Community Orchestra was established in 2010, the result of the hard work and dedication of two talented musicians in Nauvoo, Illinois.

Mrs. Peterson and Mr. Dowell joined forces in 2010 and established the Nauvoo Orchestra.  The first performance of the Orchestra was held in October 2010, as part of the Women's Guild Concert at the Community of Christ Church in Nauvoo.  Subsequent concerts have been held each year in the fall, during the holiday season and the spring.  Following our Spring  2014 concert, Mr. Dowell retired and Rick Marshall became our new conductor.  The Orchestra brings together musicians of all levels of expertise to perform beautiful music and provide a cultural experience for the citizens of Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri.  As of spring 2022 Laurie Peterson retired as Manager, Concert Mistress, and first chair.  We wish to thank her a million for her devotion to the orchestra.  Our new manager is Miki Jackson and we welcome her!  Rick Marshall is taking a two year hiatus and Jessica Knicl will be replacing Rick until he returns. Welcome newbies!

Musicians range in age from youth as young as 10 years of age to mature individuals in their senior years.  Intermediate violin students are given the opportunity to be part of an orchestra and perform with musicians of all levels of expertise.  All musicians playing orchestral instruments are welcome.

The Nauvoo Orchestra serves approximately 40 musicians, giving them the opportunity to perform together and express their musical talent.  It also serves as a cultural experience for the members of the audience.  Attendance at our past performances has been between 130-500 individuals.

Miki Jackson is the orchestra manager and program organizer  of the Nauvoo Orchestra.  Jessica Knicl is the current conductor of the Nauvoo Orchestra.
